Meet the Presidency!

AFET CPs

AFET Committee Presidents

Maria Kuhestani

Hello! My name is Maria and I’ll be one of the CPs for AFET at this session. This will be the second session of MEP Norway, and I think it’s a valuable experience for those of you who are interested in politics. You will learn a lot and this session will lay a good base for future international sessions if you have any desire to participating in those.

I myself have been fortunate enough to be a delegate at two MEP sessions! Now I’ll be a CP for the second time which will bring about a new perspective of committee work and debate. I am looking forward to seeing you all in Elverum.

Are Kolltveit

Hi, I’m Are. I attend the IB at Elverum, currently in IB2. I have been a delegate in three MEPs, in Latvia, Belgium and Austria. This is my second time as CP, and my second time chairing AFET. We will discuss the role of Europe in international conflicts, an increasingly important topic in the current political landscape.

With the supremacy of the US as “world leader” questioned, there is a growing sense that the EU should become more internationally involved. My hopes are that you will be open-minded, creative and well-prepared. No one likes an uninformed debate. I look forward to meeting everyone and hope you will enjoy your stay in Elverum.

CULT Committee Presidents

Aurora Angelica Eikaas Birkeland

Hello all! My name is Auora Angelica and I am currently in my first year of IB at Nesbru VGS. This is my second MEP, and this time I will be one of the committee presidents for the committee on Culture and Education.

I think that MEP is a great opportunity to practice speaking in front of a crowd and is also a good way to practice politics if that is your cup of tea. Whether this is your first time or not being part of an MEP session I hope you all will enjoy it very much!

Filippos Adam

Hi, I’m Filippos and I am an IB2 student from Elvis. Originally, I am from Greece so Norwegian is not my strongest suit. I was a delegate of the previous MEP which took place in Elverum and I am set to be a delegate at the Baltic Sea Region MEP which is to take place in Denmark this October.

In this MEP round I will be a Committee President of the CULT committee, culture and education, where we will discuss and solve issues concerning the relations of European countries through their education. This includes institutions and programs such as the “Erasmus+” that help us discover our cultural civilization and extend our horizons.

DEVE Committee Presidents

Amanda Louise B. Straume

Hey! I'm Amanda and I'm in my final year of the IB programme at Elverum VGS. Through studying everything from the power and politics of everyday language to the South China Sea conflict and independence movements in Africa I've come to appreciate all the layers of politics and sociology in society.

Outside of school I'm engaged in a range of things from writing articles, to being a bouji nerd at Cambridge summer school, to being involved in anything feminist and environmental - so life is truly never boring! This will be my second time as a chair at MEP and third time overall, and I am excited to be serving a committee with such an interesting topic. See you soon!

DROI Committee Presidents

Anastasia Charissa Rumawas

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to welcome you all to  MEP Norway! I'm Anastasia and I will be the CP for DROI. I'm in the last year of my IB programme and slowly dying.

MEP has made me more conscious of others and I am in love with debate and everything about it, I hope that you will too. This will be my fourth MEP conference, second time CPing and hopefully not my last. These conferences have taught me so much about different cultures that I could never have known otherwise; It's left me with so many cherished memories and life-long friends.

For as long as I can remember I've been in Human Rights and except for a few brief moments of separation, and I'm glad to be back and so excited for this issue.

I look forward to a weekend of fruitful debates, innovative solutions and chairing alongside my co-CP Håkon.

Håkon Holter

Dear delegates. My name is Håkon, I am 18 years old and I’m currently doing my last year of the IB at Elverum VGS. This will be my fourth MEP Conference, and the second as a Committee President.

My first MEP session was WEMEP Lier in Belgium. I remember getting there, not really knowing what I would be doing. Although I was quite nervous in the beginning I ended up having an amazing time debating important issues with other people, gaining a lot of knowledge about European politics and making many new friends.

Hopefully you will have the same experience. I’m super excited to be chairing alongside Anastasia in the Committee on Human Rights and hopefully whoever reading this are equally excited!

ECON Committee Presidents

Marie Veigaard

Hi! My name is Marie, and I am your committee president for the ECON Committee. I am attending Nesbru High School, in my last year of the IB program. I have experience as both delegate and committee president in past MEP conferences, last being here in Elverum this spring. I look forward to leading the ECON committee - because economics as a science concerns itself with almost all aspects of society. I study economics at school as well as having a personal interest in political economics, so I look forward to seeing you all with your best suggestions in Elverum in September!

Peder Børtnes

Hi!

My name is Peder Gunvald Nordgarden Børtnes, and I will be the CP for ECON in this MEP. My hobbies are football and music. I play guitar and bass in a band, as well as being the vocalist.

I have been to three former MEPs and I have enjoyed all of them a lot. I am also very interested in politics, and problems in our society.

SEDE Committee Presidents

Amanda Kirkeby

Hi! My name is Amanda and I will serve as CP for the committee on Security and Defence. Previously, I have participated in three MUN's, but have found MEP to be a platform which to a greater extent allows everyone to engage, learn and gain experience. This is my first time chairing a committee, and we will discuss EU crisis management in relation to Russia. The first ever MEP Norway was very inspiring, and I am much looking forward to sharing the second one with you all!

Ardit Rubovci

Hello! My name is Ardit Rubovci, and am currently in my second year at Jessheim Videregående Skole. I have always been interested in debating and politics, and MEP is a great forum for exactly that. I have been to three former MEPs; MEPBSR Latvia 2017, WEMEP Belgium, and the first Norwegian National MEP 2018 I hope you will enjoy MEP as much as I do, and I wish you good luck!

Amalie Mittet Fossnes

Hello all! My name is Amalie Mittet Fossnes and I would like to start with that it is such an honour to say congratulations to you for making the decision to take part in such a rewarding weekend. I served as a delegate in Latvia and Poland, and these conferences were truly eye-openers to me as they included both fearful and fearless moments surrounded by people with all different backgrounds.

I am currently in the final year of the IB Programme at Elverum where I will meet all of you in September. I am looking forward to see you in your committee meetings and in GA!

Helene Stewart

Dear delegates, My name is Helene Stewart and I am more than excited for this opportunity to serve as your President. I’m half Norwegian, half American and have moved around quite a bit throughout my life. Currently I go to Nesbru VGS where I’m doing the IB before going off to study somewhere in the world. I’ve always loved to travel and experience new cultures and help others, but it wasn’t until after I had attended my first MEP conference last year that I knew I wanted to pursue a career within international relations so that I can do what I love every day. I hope you, the delegates, will find this MEP conference to be equally as inspiring – if not more – and I’m excited to see what creative resolutions you will come up with. Remember to work hard and as a team – the best resolutions are those created with input from everyone and with proper compromise. Now do your research, and I’ll see you in Elverum!
